EWS Chair Application Criteria                                     

European Women and Sport Chair - Main Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are required of the EWS Chair as set out in the EWS Guidelines document included with this correspondence:

·         Chair of the Steering Group
·         Preparation, development and follow-up of the Steering Group meetings and activities
·         Organisation of the coming biennial EWS Conference
·         Preparation of the Open Steering Group Meeting to be organised in combination with the next ESC
·         Further development and follow-up of EWS aims, policies and activities
·         Strengthening of the EWS network, in particular the group of EWS contact persons
·         Co-operation with other European organisations, especially with the ESC and ENGSO, where the EWS associate membership in the
          Executive Committee shall be actively exercised, and - where appropriate - with international organisations
·         Representation of European women and sport matters in international organisations, participation in conferences on
          women and sport issues at European  and international level, where appropriate
·         Public relations (e.g. via EWS newsletter, EWS website or similar means)

Supporting Evidence for EWS Applications

Individuals seeking selection for the position of Chair of the European Women and Sport Steering Committee are asked to provide the following documentation in support of their application:

v      A letter of application which addresses the support criteria, institutional support and leadership competencies set out below
v      A current curriculum vitae
v      Documentary evidence of support from relevant organisations as listed below 

Financial Support

Candidates must provide evidence they have:

  • Support from the organisation or institution that will finance meetings, activities, tools and host the conference
  • An identified budget and the necessary human resources available to support EWS activities

Governmental Sport Support 

Candidates must provide evidence they have: 

  • Political support from the relevant Ministry, Government Department or sports agency for EWS leadership 
  • Support from national Government and non-governmental sport agencies on matters relating to women and sport and European women and sport 

Institutional Support

Candidates must provide:

·         Evidence that EWS communications infrastructure including the EWS website will be supported and maintained by the Secretariat
·         Written evidence of support from key national sports bodies for an individual's application to become Chair of EWS

Vision for European Women and Sport

Candidates are asked to include a statement outlining a vision and outline plans for the development of EWS during her term. This statement should reflect the EWS guidelines and aims.

Individual Competence and Person Specification

Essential

  • An understanding of the history and current structures of the European and International women and sport movement
  • An understanding of the issues faced by different groups of women at all levels of sport and in all capacities
  • Experience of operating within sport at national level whether as a volunteer or employee
  • Experience of working with Government and Non-Governmental agencies
  • Evidence of strategic partnerships with national sports organisations which may include National Olympic Committees, National Paralympic Committees and Non-Governmental Organisations
  • Evidence of higher educational achievement and/or university degree
  • Management experience including experience of managing teams of people and facilitating groups or meetings    
  • Experience of strategic planning
  • Able to converse, write and present in English

Desirable

  • Experience as an athlete, coach, administrator or official in sport
  • Budget management experience
  • Access to commercial support or private funding for EWS activities including EWS conference  
  • Able to converse, write and present in one other European language
  • Media experience including interviews on radio, television or press
