What is the award?

  • An award for women who have created a positive change for women in sport and have achieved success in promoting sport for women
  • Awarded by the European Women and Sport Steering Group for exceptional achievements for women in sport
  • For developing women's sport within a federation, association or in sports politics
  • For successfully and strategically implementing the principles of the Brighton Declaration

How can individuals be nominated?

The nomination is supplied by a representative, Chief Executive or the chair of a national sports organisation or federation to the EWS. The individual's curriculum vitae in sport should be accompanied by a letter of nomination that sets out the history, achievements and successes of the individual to be nominated.

What are the selection criteria?

  • Evidence of successful implementation of policies and programmes that have enhanced gender equality in sport, nationally or across Europe
  • Operating on national or european strategic level
  • Special use for the interests of sport
  • Use of gendered-federations or associations offers
  • Implementation of social projects
  • For women over a rather unusual position
  • Volunteers or a paid officers can be nominated and are expected to demonstrate their exceptional commitment to the development of women in either capacity

How will the European Women and Sport Award winner be decided?

The EWS Steering Group will review the nominations against the criteria and reach a decision on the winner.
